Background/Biography

Though he may have come from a good family, being the youngest certainly didn't do Gaara any favors. His parents were away most of the time and when they were home they barely had time to pay attention to the red-headed youth. Being the baby of the family, at age four he was left in the care of a young man named Yashamaru, who Gaara got very attached to. Although he had his older siblings Kankuro and Temari, he was never especially close to them.

Yashamaru was very kind to Gaara. Since the red-head's family was wealthy, Yashamaru had all the time in the world for Gaara, as he was being paid very handsomely for his time. The two would go to parks together, to the movies, out to lunch, to the library... wherever Gaara's heart desired. Since his parent's were never around to pay attention to him, Gaara's heart only opened up to the one person who seemed to care for him.

Gaara's youth was extremely challenging for the young boy. He was an intelligent child, with a very solitary approach towards other children. Due to this he was teased and ridiculed constantly, and Gaara began to detest his fellow students. Of course, there was always the exception to the druids of mankind, and every time Gaara left his school in tears, he would find himself in the arms of the warm and caring Yashamaru.

He was happy, if not a little quiet, and his parents, when they did see him, had no problem with that.

It was at age 8, however, when Gaara found himself pinned deeply into the firm mattress of his own bedroom, a place where one was supposed to be able to find serenity and solitude from all things evil. The culprit of his capture was Yashamaru, who had beforehand locked the doors, who had waited patiently for Kankuro and Temari to be out, who had planned the entire thing since he had laid eyes on the adorable red-headed youth and knew he wanted him for his own sick pleasures from the very beginning.

I'm sure you can figure out what happened from there. Halfway through the deed, Gaara managed to grasp hold of a small toy doll Temari had left in his bedroom and slam it on the side of Yashamaru's head. His caretaker jolted back, and Gaara, in pain, fled, halfway limping, for his life. One of the butler's returning from their trip to the store spotted him. The authorities arrived to arrest Yashamaru, Gaara was questioned by police, and everything was going smoothly. Even Gaara's parents, and older brother and sister began to pay attention to him.

However, good things can only last for so long.

Gaara's parents returned to their busy work schedule. Although Kankuro and Temari now began to worry and keep an eye over their little brother, Gaara's mindset had been fixed, thanks to Yashamaru. His bedroom had also been defiled, and was now viewed a place where only horrid things could occur. There was no one that Gaara trusted but himself. There was no one to love him now, or who he'd love in return, but himself. And that's how it always would be...

...Or would it?

Personality

Gaara has a hard time sleeping. Although it is impossible for the human body to stay up for long periods of time, Gaara has a “skill” of being able to stay up for long periods of time with absolutely no sleep. Though he doesn't like to admit it, the redhead blames his insomnia on the fact that Yashamaru had chosen his bedroom for his deeds. The one place Gaara had always found safe now gave him nightmares. When he does sleep, it's usually on the couch, or anywhere other than his room (though sometimes while reading in his bed after long periods of no sleep he may doze off accidentally).

Gaara hates “Emo's” and “Goths” as well as anyone unnaturally cheerful. He finds the majority of the first two groups to be complete posers who have no idea what it's really like to be hurt. While there are exceptions to the rule, he supposes, Gaara hasn't met anyone to change his mind thus far. Gaara's also not particularly fond of large groups especially when they go hand-in-hand with parties which usually involve alcohol and sex or any form of it.

Gaara enjoys being alone, good books, long walks on the beach, his stuffed-toy badger Shukaku, and good food. He also has a secret fetish for sweets but Gaara will be damned if anyone finds out.

Though the teen has no intention of looking for a significant other, he finds himself attracted to individuals who are kind and act very similar to how Yashamaru did before things went to hell.


Appearance

Despite Gaara's past the teen was not prone to wearing “Goth” or “Emo” clothing. He honestly detested most of the people who wore such styles since most of them had no real concept of the pain they were so emotional over. Gaara's style was one all his own. He catered a bit more to the classier side of fashion; dress shirts, dark denim jeans, fitted hoodies, and the occasional cap could all be found in Gaara's wardrobe in varying colors and patterns.

Gaara knew how to take care of himself, and with his upbringing it was only to be expected. Though he didn't sleep much, the bags on the red-headed teens eyes were minimal thanks to the rows of skin care products he kept in his bathroom. Gaara's hair is also well kept and it might be because he didn't sleep but straight-out-of-bed-head didn't suit him at all. He had let his hair grow out from when he was younger so that it covered the more sensitive area's of his skull, namely his ears and the nape of his neck.

Gaara's dark red hair and piercing green eyes have always given the youth trouble and was one of the main reasons for his being teased as a child, as well as part of what attracted Yashamaru to him in the first place.

Acquaintances:

Sarutobi Konohamaru: Gaara's one and only friend. He's only known him for a short while but already he feels particularly attached to him. Perhaps the reason is that while their backgrounds aren't exactly the same they are quite similiar. Gaara only wishes the best for Konohamaru and hopes that all his dreams will somehow come true.

Temari: Gaara's sister. They have a strange relationship and it seems most of the time that the only thing they have in common is their blood. They don't really talk much.

Uzumaki Naruto:Gaara's not to sure what to make of Naruto. They work together in the Gardening Dept. but aside from that they don't seem to have much incommon. Gaara's well aware that Naruto is the object of Konohamaru's affection and this tends to create tension between the two.
